MCLEAN, VA—The National Institute of Standards andTechnology has awarded locally-basedMITRE Corp. a $29-millionaward to operate a new cyber security research and developmentcenter.

The University of Maryland, BaltimoreCounty, and University of Maryland,College Park will work with MITRE on the projectthat will be based at the National Cybersecurity Center ofExcellence in Montgomery County, according to theBaltimore Business Journal.

MITRE is a non-profit organization created for the purpose ofoperating federally funded research and development centers.
