WASHINGTON, DC—Building owner The 601 W. Cos. is planning to began an extensive renovation to the former Intelstat S.A. headquarters building at 4000 Connecticut Ave. NW here later this year.

Intelstat moved out of the 650,000-square-foot building in Van Ness earlier this year for space in Tysons Corner after almost 30 years at the property, according to the Washington Business Journal.

The 601 W Cos. plans to begin the major capital improvement program now that National Capital Planning Commission Executive Director Marcel Acosta signed off on the renovations last month. The renovations are geared to making building's network of atriums, corridors and silos more inviting.

Recently, the building owner retained Cassidy Turley to market the vacant space to new tenants. Cassidy Turley Vice Chairman Laurie McMahon says tech and media companies are among the sectors being targeted.

"The building itself is spectacular, it's a world-class building, and with the renovations, it's going to be activated to make every space warm and inviting," McMahon says. "We're actively marketing it, and we're happy to take anybody through, especially since the building was off the market for so long as a headquarters building."
