EAST HANOVER, NJ—Locally-based NovartisPharmaceuticals, which has announced job cuts severaltimes already this year, reports it will layoff 200 workers byFebruary.

The firm, which is shifting its focus from primary care tocardiovascular disease, filed a notice of the pending layoffseffective Feb. 16 in East Hanover with the New JerseyDepartment of Labor and Workforce Development, accordingto NJ Advance Media. Novartis houses its US headquarters in EastHanover.

"We do not take these decisions lightly but do believe they arenecessary to ensure we better serve the needs of our patients andcustomers and position our U.S. General Medicines business forlong-term success," the company said in a statement.
