SAN FRANCISO—San Francisco State University is working out details for its new Hunters Point Campus which is part of one of the city's largest current development projects.

The San Francisco Examiner reports that the school will reveal in January which programs it plans to bring to Hunters Point, which it hopes to open by fall 2017. The new campus will be the university's first-ever expansion.

SFSU president Leslie Wong told the newspaper that the institution hopes to include two programs in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). The school will likely release the names of the programs in early January.

“We want to keep the theme of offering participants technical skills that might be helpful in them seeking employment from some of the technology and biotech businesses, from Mission Bay to Silicon Valley,” Wong told the Examiner.

The university plans to to occupy between 20,000 and 30,000 square feet of space at the former naval shipyard, where 3 million square feet total are being redeveloped for multiple uses including retail and residential.

Nearby Candlestick Point will comprise another 150,000 square feet of office and commercial space.
