PORTLAND-Mark Hemstreet has now put up for sale about half of the 27 Shilo Inn hotels he put into Chapter 11 bankruptcy earlier this year to protect them from creditors seeking to foreclose. The 46-hotel chain is owned by Hemstreet and operated by Hemstreet’s Shilo Management Corp.

On Wednesday, Shilo attorney Tony Summers told a federal bankruptcy judge that five more of the 27 hotels were added to the for-sale list for a total of 13 of the 27 hotels. The locations of the latest additions weren’t detailed, but previously released information shows some of the for-sale hotels are located in Spokane; Wash., Beaverton, Tigard and Grants Pass, Ore.; and in California and Idaho.

Hemstreet has said the chain is struggling due to the sharp drop in travel following the events of September combined with previous overbuilding in the industry. He has also said there are entities who have expressed interest in acquiring the hotels in bulk.

State Street Bank & Trust and LaSalle Bank are the lenders for all 27 of the hotels that filed Chapter 11. It’s not yet known how much the hotels will sell for, but according to court filings, those hotels, depending on their size, showed assets of between $1 and $10 million and debts between $10 million and $50 million.

Hemstreet operates Shilo Inns in nine western states. Twenty of the hotels are located in Oregon, with another 21 divided evenly among Washington, California and Idaho. The remaining five locations are located in Montana, Wyoming, Nevada and Arizona. Oregon is home to 12 of the 27 hotels involved in the bankruptcy.
