SCOTTSDALE, AZ-In a move that could boost Arizona’s emerging biotech industry, Scottsdale has partnered with the Mayo Clinic and T-Gen to build a $25-million, 100,000-sf medical laboratory on the Mayo Clinic’s Shea Boulevard campus.

City council is expected to approve a measure next week that would give the project $3 million in start-up funds to build the facility, which will open by the end of next year on the 180-acre campus at 13400 E. Shea Blvd. The building would house T-Gen’s Center for Translational Drug Development with about three-quarters of the space devoted to use by the Mayo Clinic, which could lease it to other companies.

The North Scottsdale site, which will be developed by local builder Tom Hornaday, has room for an additional 10 to 20 research facilities. The facility will be designed to work in tandem with other laboratories proposed for construction at the University of Arizona, Arizona State University and a major bio-tech center that is set to be built in downtown Phoenix.
