SPRINGFIELD, VA-Fairfax County officials are hopeful that a site here near the Springfield-Franconia Metro station will be the winner of the sweepstakes to land the headquarters of the FBI. However, they realize they have a lot of competition.

The General Services Administration released a solicitation for developers last month that proposed swapping the J. Edgar Hoover building’s land on Pennsylvania Avenue for the construction of a new consolidated campus in the Washington D.C. region. Since then, Fairfax is one of a number of locations in D.C., Virginia and Maryland that have made it known they would like to land the agency and its thousands of jobs, the Washington Post reports.

Leaders hailing from Northern Virginia are expected to meet Thursday, the newspaper says, to discuss the FBI headquarters requirement. See story in the Washington Post.
