WASHINGTON, D.C.-Developer Donald Trump is trying to work out a deal with the General Services Administration and the D.C. government to reduce the taxes on his project to redevelop the Old Post office into a luxury hotel.
Two high-level D.C. government sources tell the Washington Business Journal that the Trump Organization say that representatives of the Trump Organization approached district officials about tax relief, but were rebuffed. However, the newspaper reports those discussions continue. Unless a deal is ironed out, Trump could expect a base rent on the Post Office at 1100 Pennsylvania Ave. NW of about $3 million and an annual tax bill of at least that much, the report states.
