CHICAGO—Holladay Properties recently closed on the $2.4 million sale of Lot 29 at Ameriplex at the Port in suburban Portage, IN, to Merrillville, IN-based MonoSol, LLC. The water soluble film manufacturer held a groundbreaking ceremony on Friday for the new $95 million, 300,000-square-foot manufacturing plant the company plans to build on the 23.38 acre site.
MonoSol announced last year that it would expand in order to keep up with demand for its single-dose Tide Pods and Cascade Action Pacs. The company received tax abatements from the City of Portage as well as other incentives from the Northwest Indiana Regional Development Authority. Company officials say they could hire as many as 150 new employees for the new facility.
South Bend, IN-based Holladay has just 80 acres of land remaining for sale at the Portage business park. MonoSol’s new facility will bring the total amount of space developed at AmeriPlex at the Port up to 2.8-million-square-feet. Since Holladay broke ground on the 385-acre park in 2000, there has been $255 million in new construction.
