WASHINGTON, DC—The General Services Administration is seeking replacement leases for a number of agencies in 2016, including:

  • 575,000 square feet for the Department of Justice’s Drug Enforcement Agency, which is currently at 600-700 Army Navy Dr., in Arlington, in a lease that expires in September 2018. DEA has trimmed its space per employee to the bone and will maintain its current office utilization rate of 116 per square feet per person and overall utilization rate of 192 per square feet per person.
  • 511,000 square feet for the Social Security Administration, currently housed at 1500 and 1718 Woodlawn Dr., in Woodlawn, MD. The agency plans to scale back its office and overall utilization rates from 198 to 102 per square feet and 297 to 163 per square feet, respectively, for a 41% reduction of space, or 362,203 square feet, from its current occupancy. Its leases in Woodlawn expire in 2018.
  • 115,000 square feet for the Department of State employees currently at 2121 Virginia Ave., NW.
  • 105,000 square feet for the Federal Election Commission, which is currently at 999 E St., NW. Reducing office and utilization rates will allow the commission to trim its space by 23%, or 31,957 square feet.
  • 97,000 square feet for the Department of Veterans Affairs, currently at 801 Eye St., NW. Right now there are three offices at that location. One of the offices will be relocated into federally owned space, while one of the two remaining offices, the Office of the Inspector General, will expand by 22% to address the issue of patient wait times.
  • 43,000 square feet for the Army Corp. of Engineers, currently housed at 10 South Howard St., in Baltimore. It is trimming its space by 19%, or 33,332 square feet.
