NEW YORK CITY—Real estate technology accelerator MetaProp NYC has selected eight firms for its 2016 accelerator class. The fledgling start-ups were selected from what MetaProp NYC officials say was a record-shattering 300 applications from companies based in 35 countries. This year’s entries doubled last year’s interest in the accelerator class. Each company, will receive 22 weeks of rigorous real estate and technology training, mentorship and industry exposure in addition to $50,000-to $250,000 in funding. This year’s accelerator participants, considered some of the real estate industry’s fastest growing technology startups, hail from New York City, Seattle, Silicon Valley and Tampa Bay, with nearly all having recently graduated from prestigious generalist technology accelerators, including from Mountainview, CA-based YCombinator, considered the gold standard in the field. “Our 2016 accelerator cohort is filled with talented and inspiring entrepreneurs who are transforming everything in real estate from building energy management, to interior design, to construction project scheduling and even real estate appraisals,” says Aaron Block, MetaProp NYC co-founder and managing director. “It’s exciting for us to work with the next generation of RETech entrepreneurs in attacking common problems across the residential, office, industrial, retail and leisure real estate value chain.” The annual MetaProp NYC accelerator program features more than 100 mentors and has secured support from international partners and sponsors including the Real Estate Board of New York, the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, the International Council of Shopping Centers, the New York City Economic Development Corporation, Zillow Group, Warburg Realty, Millennium Partners, Silicon Valley Bank, DLA Piper, EisnerAmper and the News Funnel. The 2016 MetaProp NYC Accelerator class includes: Flip, the first peer-to-peer property leasing marketplace; Ravti, a software and digital tagging system that automates the process of bidding, procuring, and overseeing HVAC operations; and Enertiv, a firm that collects, visualizes and analyzes energy in commercial, multifamily and industrial buildings. Remaining accelerator participants are HoM, a company that partners with residential landlords to deliver group fitness classes in under-utilized space; onTarget, a visual project management and analytics tool for the construction industry; BuildPulse, which helps building owners and operators unlock the data in their HVAC systems; WorkOf, an online home for contemporary design that features furniture, lighting and accessories from more than 100 design studios across the country and Bowery, a commercial appraisal report software company.
