County Enforces New Minimum Wage Requirements

The new enforcement bureau will oversee unincorporated communities in Los Angeles County.

LOS ANGELES—Los Angeles County has voted to fund a wage enforcement bureau to hold employers accountable for meeting the new minimum wage requirements in the unincorporated communities of Los Angeles County. The County Board of Supervisors voted 4-1 to fund bureau and designate the Department of Consumer and Business Affairs as the agency charged with enforcement. The new wages laws go into effect on July 1.

“Wage enforcement was always part of our three-pronged campaign platform. To make the minimum wage real, you must have strong enforcement to ensure employees are getting paid correctly for the hours they work,” Rusty Hicks, executive secretary-treasurer of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO and co-convener of the Campaign to Raise the Wage, tells GlobeSt.com.
