NEWARK-Transit was non-existent throughout much of the state Tuesday and into Wednesday in the aftermath of superstorm Sandy. While some roads connecting New Jersey and New York have opened (notably, the Garden State Parkway) and the George Washington Bridge is also open, many roads in the central part of the state continue underwater or damaged in some way.

During his Oct. 31 press conference, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie noted that PATH’s commuter rail service would be down for several days. NJ Transit added its own list of suspensions to the mix, noting that in addition to PATH’s suspension, light rail service and bus service is still down, with limited exceptions.  Many of the light rail routes in the system sustained flooding, and while the River Line didn’t have much damage, there isn’t any power available to operate the signals.
