PHILADELPHIA-If Flower Foods purchase of Hostess Brands is successful; a shuttered Hostess bakery in Philadelphia will not be one of the 20 industrial bakeries Flower plans to buy as part of the deal.
According to a report in the Philadelphia Inquirer, Flower Foods spokesman Keith Hancock told the newspaper that the Hostess’ Blue Grass Road plant in North Philadelphia will not be part of Flower’s $360-million offer to buy the bankrupt company. Flower will, however, add bread lines at an Oxford plant in Chester County, PA that the firm acquired as part of its purchase of Tasty Baking Co. last year.
Production stopped on Nov. 9 at the North Philadelphia bakery and other Hostess facilities when workers walked out after management’s final contract offer. See story in the Philadelphia Inquirer.
